Listed below are the remaining Cargill patents for November 2002:
Title: Production of lactate using crabtree negative organisms
in varying culture conditions
Patent/Publication number: US 6485947
Assignee: Cargill Dow Polymers, LLC
Inventors: Vineet Rajgarhia, Vassily Hatzimanikatis, Stacey Olson,
Ting Carlson, John N. Starr, Jeffrey J, Kolstad and Aharon Eyal
Published: Nov. 26, 2002
Summary: Crabtree negative organisms such as Kluyveromyces, Pichia,
Hansenula and Candida, are used to make selected organic products
such as lactic acid. The organisms are cultured in a first culture
medium that includes glucose, under conditions that promote cellular
respiration. The organisms are then cultured under a second set of
conditions that promote production of the selected organic product.
The organisms preferably contain an exogenous lactate dehydrogenase
gene.
Title: Method and arrangement for processing coca mass; resulting
products
Patent/Publication number: US 20020176916 A1
Assignee: Cargill, Incorporated
Inventors: Ian Charles Purtle and Todd Walter Gusek
Published: Nov. 28, 2002
Summary: Techniques for processing cocoa mass are provided. In general,
the techniques involve solvent extraction of coca fat from cocoa mass,
to achieve a desirable cocoa butter and low-fat cocoa powder. In one
preferred process, the cocoa mass is the result of grinding cocoa
nibs, with absence of a mechanical pressing and heating step, to advantage.
Preferred products and uses are characterized. |

Assignee: Cargill, Incorporated
Inventors: Mervyn L. DeSouza, Sherry R. Kollmann, Colleen A. May
and William A. Schroeder
Published: Oct. 10, 2002
Summary: Membranous bacteria that produce astaxanthin and other
carotenoids are described, as well as isolated nucleic acids and
expression vectors that can be used for producing carotenoids in
microorganisms.
Title: Oils with heterogenous chain lengths
Patent/Publication number: US 6465401
Assignee: Cargill, Incorporated
Inventors: Dharma R. Kodali and Scott C. Nivens
Published: Oct. 15, 2002
Summary: Oils containing a triacylglycerol polyol ester and a non-glycerol
polyol ester are described, as well as methods of making such oils.
Methods for improving lubrication properties of a vegetable oil
also are described.
Title: Process for the Production of Masa Flour and Dough
Patent/Publication number: WO 02080685 A1
Assignee: Cargill, Incorporated
Inventors: Edward J. Brubacher, Ansui Xu and Pablo Gaito
Published: Oct. 17, 2002
Summary: This invention is directed to a continuous process for
the production of flour and dough using ground corn kernels where
before grinding the hull and tip cap are removed from the corn kernels
which ground corn produces an endosperm/germ flour. The endosperm/germ
flour then is moisturized and cooked with direct and indirect heat
to gelatinize about 10 to about 50 weight percent of the starch
in the flour. |

Title: Gluten lactose blends
Patent/Publication number: EP 0803198 B1
Assignee: Cerestar Holding BV
Inventors: Jos Willy Ghislain Corneel De Sadeleer and Cornelis Bos
Published: Aug. 14, 2002
Summary: The present invention relates to non-hygroscopic free-flowing
products in general. Such products are composed of a hydrophobic and
a hydrophilic material and are obtained by the co-drying of these
materials. Specifically, the present invention discloses a non-hygroscopic
free-flowing product consisting of a sugar and a protein component.
A case in point is a mixture of lactose and gluten which is suitable
for use in animal feed compositions. The present invention also relates
to a method for obtaining such products and to feed compositions containing
the products. Title: Reactive Oil Compositions and Uses
Thereof
Patent/Publication number: WO 02060839 A2
Assignee: Cargill, Incorporated
Inventor: Dharma R. Kodali
Published: Aug. 8, 2002
Summary: A process for modifying an unsaturated polyol fatty acid
ester stock, such as an unsaturated triacylglycerol oil, to enhance
its reactivity provided. The method includes reacting the unsaturated
polyol fatty acid ester stock with an oxygenating agent, such as an
oxygen-containing gas. Tempering oils containing reactive polyol fatty
acid esters and methods for their production and use are also provided. |
