Functional foods
Consumers are seeking simple ways through foods and beverages to maintain good health.
“Functional food” is not a consumer term but there is a high level of awareness, concern and usage among consumers of foods and beverages with functional benefits. Functional foods are foods and beverages that have other health benefits that go beyond basic nutrition. Consumers are increasingly aware of functional foods as “78% of consumers agree that functional foods can make a meaningful impact on my health when I consume them” and “76% say added health benefits of functional foods provide a compelling reason to consume them more often”. 1
